MiniLuxe at Derby Street leaves a not-so-mini Impression

May 14, 2013

I don’t write about beauty often because to be honest I can’t really give my expertise (I am no makeup artist in other words). However, as a lifelong diva I know the difference between a good and bad experience at a nail salon. While I have had my share of both, my most recent visit to MiniLuxe at the Derby Street Shops in Hingham blew me away.

What makes this place different from other places I have visited?

– They use clearly labeled products, so you know exactly what is going on with your hands. They also had a clearly visible “clean lab” where they sanitize tools. The biggest thing for me? My nail technician offered to give me the nail file and buffer they used on my hands to take home with me– there is no question as to who else they have been used on, halleluiah!

– None of the polish they had to offer was dried up! It was clear that none of the colors had been sitting around for a long period of time. Even more awesome is that they had “sale colors” that you could buy that perhaps aren’t quite in season (although some of them were pretty classic). They offer their own line of polish, as well as colors from Essie and O.P.I.

– In addition to a nails, MiniLuxe offers waxing and makeup. Unlike many nail salons that “also offer waxing”, this place is more of a one-stop destination than the other places where you may be unsure of their legitimacy. I did not get anything waxed this time, but I wouldn’t hesitate to in the future.

-MiniLuxe is also full of mini indulgences, a Hanky Panky, a pair of JoJo earrings– very different from the aged jewelery and accessories they often sell at spas, that are better suited for your grandmother than yourself. Instead, colorful studded jewelery and hair-ties!

– My nail technician, Lam, was awesome and didn’t indulge in side-conversation with her co-workers and instead focused on the customer, finally! My manicure took awhile, but she was very detail oriented and I left confident that this manicure is one that will last for awhile! I don’t mind when it takes a little bit longer as long as it lasts a little bit longer as well!

(I chose “My Better Half” by Essie)

and the craziest part…

iPads by the drying station?

Overall– you don’t know what you’re missing until you go to MiniLuxe, I had no idea that places with sanitary and quality standards like them existed! Thank you MiniLuxe, I will be back!
