Forecast: Pastels With a Chance of Snow.

March 4, 2015

Retailers have cleaned up their winter apparel and made room for spring clothes. While this is exciting, of course, it seems that clothing stores always forget to take into consideration that many of us are still surrounded by snow banks at this time of the year. Spring officially starts March 20th, but after the winter from hell Boston was blessed with, I’m not entirely confident in the snow’s ability to melt in a timely fashion. This year instead of rocking tired neon colors, think light pink, baby blue, pale yellow and violet.

One of the best pieces of advice I can give you is to follow a very simple rule when getting dressed in bipolar whether: wear colors that represent the season and fabrics that represent the weather forecast.

Pastels

Kate Spade purple earrings, $48 / You can thank Kendra Scott for bringing back dangly earrings. I love this Kate Spade pair because they are bold. Please do not wear them with a necklace, this isn’t Claire’s, and you’re not in 5th grade.
Chicnova Fashion long coat $23 / For the price, I think I need to buy this coat. Wear it with a white blouse and jeans, or all black errythang.
Rebecca Minkoff crossbody handbag. $175 / I like this bag because it is a little more structured than the classic mini mac. The color is great because although it is technically a pastel, its wearable in the winter when worn correctly (correctly being black.)
Topshop blue shoes, $86 / This shoe style is extremely popular right now. Just as we are all guilty of wearing open toed shoes a little further into the fall than socially acceptable (it happens), we can start early too. Going out only. Pedicure required.
Essie nail polish, $17 / Retire the darks until August when you forget how much you hated burgundy by March.
Acne Studios sweatshirt, $225 / Acne has a cult fan-base. I have yet to drink the Kool Aid, but there is something more fashionable about a sweatshirt without the hood.
Topshop leather bag $105 / I’ll be deeply disappointed if I find out that none of my followers bought this bag. Think of all the opportunities to wear this bag in the spring and summer. Everyone loves a backpack, people.
Ted Baker jacket, $610 / Okay, i know its expensive. But a pastel moto-jacket is the ultimate way to beat the cold without getting depressed over it. Worried you won’t have enough of an opportunity to wear it? Have you forgotten it doesn’t get warm until mid-june? AND it still gets cold at night!! Wear it open with destroyed denim shorts or white jeans in the summer (at night) and with a little black dress come September. You’ll have to put it away once the temperatures drop next fall, but in the meantime use and abuse.
MSGM leather shoes, $445/ Shoes that are cooler than I’ll ever be. Gwen Stefani would wear these, tell me otherwise.
Enjoy your shopping, and just remember– the best is yet to come.
