3 Comeback Trends

June 6, 2015

In the age of the internet it should come as no surprise that the fashion-cycles are accelerated. Some trends have the never-ending lifespan of a pet-store goldfish;  like the re-birth of the flare that has everybody talking.. and BUYING. Others are not as sustainable, like tattoo choker necklaces. Brandy Melville and Urban Outfitters made tattoo chokers very cool, very fast– but by the time the trend caught on, NORMCORE was already on its way out, and the 70’s styles moving in had no use for accessories historically purchased in grocery store vending machines.

One-shoulder tanks.

Flashback to your freshman year of college when you were ALL about the one-shoulder look. Fortunately for us, this style is moving a comeback. I’m not suggesting you search your closet for your favorite bubble-hem Charlotte Russe polyester number, although it was def cute in 2008, but instead go for lighter fabrics, and styles that resemble a commercialized “Greek goddess” look.

Polo shirts.

When Man Repeller first reported that Polo shirts were making a comeback I wasn’t sure what to do with myself. I was forced to deal with a lot of repressed emotions. Do I actually like polo shirts? Does the reappearance of the polo mean my evil brace-faced self will make a comeback? So much hate, so much confusion, and yes, a little bit of nostalgia. Turning point: when I saw a french girl at my work rocking a polo. I realized I had no choice but to accept the fact that they are back. Hint: over-sized with boyfriend jeans = easy look.

As for those of you cheering because you KNEW there was a reason to keep that Hollister polo you irresponsibly spent $50 on…. you’re still a hoarder. Give that shit to Good Will, just as you should have 5+ years ago.

Low-Rise.

I know what you’re thinking: do you fucking hate me Mackenzie? I don’t hate you, and you should hate me either. Although low-rise is indeed making *somewhat* of a comeback, its a comeback you can ignore if you so choose. Cropped tops aren’t going anywhere and most of us are pretty set on not exposing our mid-section. High-rise jeans are here to stay, but as you may have noticed high-rise shorts are slowly but surely being removed from clothing store shelves. Is this due to the male population whom has firmly stood against high-rise shorts for the past few years? Possibly. More than likely the wedgie police has just become a little more strict. So where will we be seeing this low-rise trend? Shorts, which will NOT resemble Daisy Dukes, and boyfriend jeans– that just look a little better lower on the body.
