Abercomeback & Fitch

July 9, 2015

The only thing more shocking than the fact that Abercrombie is coming back into style is the insanely low prices on their website. We’re talking so low that i’m genuinely confused and think I might be a witness to one of those situations where a flight to Florida costs roughly $10 and the airline can’t retract it. I’m legitimately tempted to purchase something from Abercrombie? What is wrong with me? Lets put it this way, if this were 2004– your parents would be begging you to shop at Abercrombie, instead of say a much more over-priced… Aeropostale.

Its brilliant, to be honest. With the further failure of mid-priced fashion outlets like Gap and J. Crew, its perfectly logical for A&F to resemble say… Forever 21, H&M + Brandy Melville. These stores are insanely popular amongst millennials, because although “real adults” prefer quality to quantity, the Instagram generation wants as many trendy, new outfits as possible.

Similar to American Eagle, A&F offers a “Our Favorite Brands” department, which allows you to shop Dolce Vita, Sam Edelman, and New Balance. They are clearly following the lead of Nasty Gal, Tobi, and Free People. Brilliant move selling One Teaspoon, the incredibly trendy denim brand which suits the 2015 Abercrombie Girl. I’m genuinely shocked, but ever since d-bag CEO Mike Jeffries was fired from Jeffries Group (which owned Hollister and Gillie Hicks among others), the company has really pulled itself together. Its ironic that as soon as the guy who wanted A&F to be cool left, people started to reconsider the company. I can actually picture the brand truly reinventing itself. I currently have a shopping bag, but you bet i’m going to use the magnifying glass to search for a moose.

Still, I have a few issues with this reinvention. For one– where is the so desperately needed size XL (and have there been size-adjustments?) Two– lower prices = lower social responsibility? Since Mike Jeffries is out (as I’ve hoped for so long), I’m willing to give the brand a shot. I’ll be placing an order soon, and truthfully– there is a lot to choose from.
