Sunday Scaries Solved

May 6, 2016

I have a confession to make: I think I’m washed up. I cannot have three drinks without an inescapable bone-shivering, life-altering hangover anymore. No amount of Vita Coco or Pedialite can save me. The feared ‘morning after’ is like dying a slow, horrible death without the sweet release of leaving this earth, actually. But I’m young, and I will still voluntarily sacrifice the complete waste of a Sunday if it means a fun night out. One thing I will not sacrifice, however, is my skin.

No matter how many ounces of water I keep on my bedside table, my skin is sure to be dehydrated the next morning. I probably slept in my makeup, which, in the beauty world, is the equivalent of dropping the ‘spirit stick’ at cheer camp in Bring It On (MAJOR faux pas, guys), and depending on the occasion, there *might* have been late night pizza involved. Let’s not forget that alcohol itself doesn’t do the skin any favors to begin with…there’s a reason you’re served cucumber water at the spa and not Jack and Cokes.

I thought my post-drinking revival routine was golden. I shared my secrets, and my weekend warrior friends started following suit. Wash face, steam face, slather on a trusty face mask then moisturize after rinsing, all while double fisting a cup of green tea and any other liquid with electrolytes; preferably coconut water, one of the richest natural sources of them all. Blue Gatorade? Not unless you’re a twelve year old athlete. Engage in a two minute ritual of promising yourself you’ll never drink another Tito’s Soda again in your life, and then top it all off with an açaí bowl or smoothie for a blast of the nutrients and antioxidants that you lost on the dance floor the night before, along with your dignity.

Then I discovered Skyn Iceland. This all-natural skincare line has their very own “Skin Hangover- Emergency Relief Kit”. My eyes popped out of my head when I heard this existed. Genius! The kit contains four of the brand’s all-star products to help “revive and restore overworked, overstressed, depleted skin and eyes”. Sold. The “Skin Hangover Kit” comes with the Fresh Start Mask treatment to oxygenate and rejuvenate skin, the Antidote Cooling Daily Lotion to hydrate, then the Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels and Icelandic Relief Eye Pen to de-puff tired eyes. The only things this kit doesn’t include are those extra five hours of sleep you’re going to wish you had.

I excitedly look forward to testing this kit out the next time I choose to make poor decisions. Maybe now I won’t scare my customers away while I’m serving them brunch on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Or maybe I will- it’s a toss up.
