Bumbled for Besties.

July 6, 2016

The minute I heard about Bumble’s new “BFF” filter I was game.  Having just moved to NYC with my boyfriend Ben, I wasn’t exactly desperate for friends, but approaching anti-social status nonetheless. Always a risk taker in the world of online dating, I signed my ass up. This was going to be SO much more fun than going on an Ok!Cupid date with someone 4 inches shorter than me. My Bumble BFF date went super well. I chose to hangout with a girl from the South Shore of Massachusetts who happens to live in my area of the city. At the very least, we’d have something in common. She and her cousin/roommate are super awesome and we hang pretty often. #justdoit

Kate, 23, Wilmington, North Carolina

Bumble experience: I learned a lot tonight about my new city. Well all talked about our favorite places to go and things to do around town. I’ve lived here for 8 months and I’m still not done exploring. Even if these friendships don’t work out, I have a list of cool places to go to.

What’s Your Bumble Bio?

I’m new to Wilmington and working as a full time nanny. In need of some adult time! Seeking future gal pal 💅

What made you sign up for bumble bff?
Mackenzie made me do it and I love her for it.

Where did you go on your Bumble Date?

A classy Mexican restaurant (Margs, duh.)

How was your BFF date different from a traditional online date?

It was a group date, so that was interesting. The girl I was talking to on Bumble set up a group date with me and one other girl. I had never met the other girl, nor did I match up with her on Bumble. We were the first ones to arrive and we didn’t know we were waiting for each other.

Will you hang out again, why or why not?

Hopefully! There wasn’t any awkward silences, it was easy to talk to them.

Would you do it again, or recommend it?

YES! Especially to a young professional lady straight out of college in a new city. It is NOT easy to make friends out of college.

Kia, 22, Seattle, Wa

Bumble Experience: We actually ended up going to multiple bars, which resulted in some terrible karaoke and me crashing on her couch. We even did the stoned brunch that we originally planned on. I’m glad she was not Ted Cruz.

What’s Your Bumble Bio?

Just moved here from Boston.

My friends compare me to Amy Schumer and Ilana from Broad City.

Be the Abbi to my Ilana.

Aspiring comedian yet a great procrastinator. Karaoke Queen.

I love *tree emoji* and a good IPA. I’m like the best gay friend you never had… except I’m not gay.

What made you sign up for bumble bff?

I just moved to Seattle from a ~lifelong stint~ in Boston. I always made friends easily but after about a month in a new city, I realized “Wow. Making friends as an adult sucks.” So if you can use tinder for finding your dream man- why cant you use Bumble BFF to find your soulmate sister friends?

Where did you go on your Bumble Date?

My Bumble BFF, Lindsey had planned on meeting up and having stoner brunch on Saturday. But as I was closing at my job- she told me that she was right down the street. So we met for a couple drinks in downtown Seattle.

How was your BFF date different from a traditional online date?

I’ve never been on any online dates, mostly because of my crippling fear of being abducted by Ted Cruz… and because of the potential awkwardness. I was 100% myself in my bio, as much as I could be, and clicked with Lindsey right off the bat. I was my normal sarcastic self and we vibed really well. After talking for a few days, I knew that it would be nearly impossible for our “date” to be a bust.

Will you hang out again, why or why not?

Yes! I actually went to her birthday party last week and had a great time. It was awesome meeting her friends as well.

Would you do it again, or recommend it?

Hell yeah! I think people are too close minded… and especially in a new city- everyone wants a couple good friends to keep them from missing home too much. I want to meet people on bumble and organically and hopefully make some lifelong gal pals.

Sarah, 22, NYC

Bumble Experience: This girl has two, GIANT, beautiful white dogs. That was definitely a plus. I was just sitting on the floor with them while I drank my vodka sodas. #BlessUp

What’s Your Bumble Bio?

Hey girl 💁🏼 Originally from Massachusetts, been here about a year and a half. I Iove boozey brunches, working out, spending too much money in Sephora & petting strangers’ dogs. Sarcastic & can recite just about any Will Ferrel movie. IG: saraahshort

What made you sign up for bumble bff?

I was extremely hungover and went to my roommates bed and switched it over to the BFF version (thinking that it would be funny to mess with people. Because I act 13). As I was scrolling through I was like oh wait, this girls totally normal, oh so is this girl. Shit. I want to be friends with some of them.

Where did you go on your Bumble Date?

The same day I started, we ended up making plans to go out with this girl and her friend that night! She was 23, lives in UES and just moved here and wanted to meet girlfriends outside of work. We went to a pregame at her apartment and then went out in the Lower East Side. We had a crazy but fun night ands still keep in touch.

How was your BFF date different from a traditional online date?

Well, I didn’t feel nervous and I wasn’t on edge at all because I wasn’t trying to figure out if I was physically attracted to her or not. Taking that out of the equation makes it pretty easy to just be yourself and get to know someone new. Also she had her friend and I had my roommate with me so that was helpful too.

Will you hang out again, why or why not?

Definitely! We have stayed in touch, life is crazy so we haven’t seen each other in a while but she and I talk once a week or so and are trying to get together again.

Would you do it again, or recommend it?

I would do it again… I’m just extremely lazy with dating apps alone and tend to use them sporadically. It worked out very well that we got together within the same day of me getting the app because I probably didn’t go on it again for another week or so. I think a lot of people are on that boat with these types of apps, unless they are aggressively seeking a significant other. I definitely recommend it though!! I think more girls should swallow their pride and check it out. We can definitely all admit it’s truly difficult to meet people outside of work after college- especially in NYC.
