Winter 2017/2018 Black Tie Guide

December 6, 2017

It’s that time of the year again. You can no longer rock open toed heels and you have to ask yourself “do I need tights with this?” Answer: usually, yes. Whether your next event is a winter formal, wedding or holiday party– we’ve got you covered. We’ve found 30 perfect outfits for all styles and budgets 🙂

First, I want to address something *a lot* of people stress over; dress code:

Unless the invitation specifies a dress code, you can assume it’s formal. This means you’re good to go with a cocktail dress, and something simple is totally okay. You’re probably even gucci wearing flats or kitten heels. If the invitation says black tie you have the option of wearing a dressy cocktail dress, or something tea or floor length. Definitely wouldn’t go mini, and you’re going to have to wear heels (they can be short!) If you’re invited to a white tie event, probably because you roll with rich people, you need to wear a gown. I focused mostly on formal and black tie outfits for this article.

Enough chatting, happy shopping.

timeless & classic

You’re the kind of girl who doesn’t buy a dress only to wear it once. When you make a purchase, you’re sincere in saying that you’ll want to keep it for years. You’ll want to go with a classic, structured coat and an a-line or classic-cut dress. It’s the smartest bet if you don’t want to look back at photos and regret your look. You know what you like, you always look good– but you’re definitely not the person to take a fashion risk at a wedding.

sexy & chic

You like to keep it sexy & aren’t afraid to take fashion risks– but you like neutral tones and straight lines. An easy and hot look is a midi-slip dress. Mini is too scandalous for most occasions; an exception being a sorority formal or something. A duster or wrap coat is a good way to channel your inner Chrissy Teigen. Pair it off with a middle part, hoop earrings and a classic heel– you’ve basically been styled by Monica Rose.

glamorous & trendy

Any opportunity to dress up is a chance to show off your fabulous style. You’re all about (faux) fur, aren’t afraid to rock a jumpsuit, and have several pairs of statement earrings to choose from. You rock monochrome like a boss. Some may describe you as extra, but you know how to do it right. You might actually be me + you certainly aren’t trying to blend in.
