January Q+A

January 28, 2018

Q: What is your everyday makeup? I remember you mentioning Marcelle BB Cream? Your skin always has such a healthy glow!

A: Thank you! I usually wear St. Tropez self-tanner, so that explains ~the glow~ my everyday makeup is below. I’ll do a video to go with this soon!

Concealer: Nars

BB Cream: Marcelle

Eyebrow Pencil: Anastasia

Eyeshadow: Naked 1 by Urban Decay. I’ve tried them all and this one is by far the best. It’s a classic. I have no need for another eyeshadow palatte (i’ll just buy singles when I want to try a new color)

Contour: Anastasia

Blush: Trestique

Highlighter: Lancome (gifted to me, but like really good)

Mascara: Better than Sex + Chanel. I wear both at the same time to get the long-lasting effect.

It sounds like a lot, but it takes me less than 10 minutes to do!

Q: I know you’re a huge RTR fan, but do you miss shopping and owning clothes? Or is the constant newness worth it?

A: Actually, my shopping experience is WAY better! I can actually buy the things I really want, because I don’t NEED more things! Rent the Runway helps me avoid *most* impulse purchases. For wardrobe building, I love my bi-monthly Trunk Club boxes. My stylist, Liz, always sends me amazing things. She has me hooked on Good American jeans right now! If you’re looking to expand your closet, I highly recommend signing up for Trunk Club. If you just like to wear new things, but don’t NEED to buy anything– Rent the Runway is a godsend. I’ve been using it for two years + i’ve got many friends hooked.

Q: Thoughts on online dating?

A: Tinder is the new Adult Friend Finder, Bumble is the new Tinder, Hinge is the new Bumble. Ok! Cupid is great if you’re looking to get married. Seriously, they have like a lot of marriages under their belt. I met my boyfriend IRL (how we met here), but before him I was on Ok!Cupid + Tinder, this was also 2015 and shit has changed. I’ve also done Seeking Arrangement. Ask me about it once I’ve had a couple glasses of wine.

Q: Favorite places to shop online?

A: Saks off 5th!!! They have an amazing selection of J Brand (the Maria is the best jean around.) I also love the Outnet and J.Crew factory. For shoes I always go to 6pm– I love Sam Edelman, but I don’t like to pay full price ever. I also love love shopbop and revolve (like us all.)

Q: Where to buy a new business wardrobe on a budget?

A: 1000% Jcrew Factory. I also *love* the Gap. Again, always wait until they have a sale. They do 40% off everything like once a month. The Old Navy pixie pant is my favorite dress pant, and it’s SO cheap. In general the quality of Old Navy is crap though, so I wouldn’t recommend buying all your clothes from there, you’ll just need to buy new ones a few months later.

Q: I feel like you’ve traveled everywhere! Where are your favorite places to visit?

A: My favorite place in the world is Bali (specifically Uluwatu.) Obvious it’s not that easy to zip over to Asia from the east coast, but if you have the opportunity to go– seize it! My second favorite place is Cartagena, Colombia. It’s so beautiful there, and it’s extremely cheap. During the peak season it’s about $400 round trip (direct) from NYC. The exchange rate is also unbelievably in our favor.

Q: What is your favorite swimwear designer?

A: Becca swim, hands down. If you have big boobs, this is the brand you’ve been searching for. I love their one-pieces and wore them all last summer. This year I tried a couple new brands and was disappointed. Back to Becca we go!

Q: What is on your book list for 2018? Are you still aiming for 50 books this year?

A: I’m currently reading Green by Sam Graham-Felson, who was the chief blogger for Obama’s 2008 campaign. It’s about an interracial friendship between middle school boys in the late 90’s in Boston. I’m definitely aiming to read 50 books again. My goal is actually to finish 51 this year! I’m working on my 4th book right now, so it’s on track! Next on my reading list is actually Aly Raisman’s book “Fierce”, which I’ve had on my nightstand for a couple of months now… I’d like to read as many books written by women of color as possible.
