MAC is one of those companies that has a cult following. I might get a crusade of girls coming after me ready to stab my eyes out with their 217’s and paint my body with blood and Ruby Woo for saying this but I used to hate MAC (and partially still do). Even if you love them, I’m willing to bet that you’ll get where I’m coming from.
We’ve all had that saleswoman. She rolls her eyes at you, annoyed at your silly questions. She glares at you as though all you’ve done is waste her time and test her patience. She gives you a look of disdain when you turn around and you feel her eyes following you as you walk out of the store empty handed. I’ve had this happen before multiple times at MAC.
From a customer service standpoint, it’s terrible. From a female standpoint, it’s deplorable.
I was at Nordstrom awhile ago and was browsing past the MAC counter. I had recently watched a video with Amelia Liana and she mentioned MAC’s lipstick in the shade Brave. I was scoping this out when the most friendly MAC employee approached me. She patiently explained to me the difference between all of the finishes on their lipsticks, helped me find exactly what I was looking for, touched up my makeup before I met up with girlfriends, and did all of this with a smile. I was blown away.
I’m not a celebrity makeup artist, I simply have a passion for makeup. Walking into a MAC store, I know my skin isn’t airbrushed, my eyeshadow isn’t blended beautifully, my stubby lashes sometimes clumpy. Isn’t this a golden opportunity for a MAC employee to help? Not judge because my makeup isn’t ready for a photo shoot. That’s their job.
I am all about customer service. I think it’s such a shame when companies don’t stress this enough. Benefit Cosmetics won me over when I was in middle school – they treated me the way the girl at Nordstrom did which is why I consider myself a Benebabe. High end makeup is intimidating (and an investment) which is why it makes me sad when there isn’t an employee willing to help. The girl at Nordstrom has partially won me over, but I’m still skeptical.
To all you MAC girls, since I only have two products, tell me what I’m missing out on. Have you had an experience like this before, with any company? Let’s chat below.
