One year my parents gave my sisters and I the most obscure Christmas gift possible; Lady Gaga tickets. It wasn’t that I disliked her music, but I never really got the hype…. until I actually saw her live. I was sold– GAGA for GAGA. The next day my sister and I agreed that from that point forward, we were Little Monsters.
Reasons why YOU should be a little monster too:
1.) Because she supports LGBT rights, hardcore.
Since the beginning of her career Lady Gaga has been outspoken about her support for the LGBT community. In addition to being bisexual herself, she has made herself a spokesperson for the gays– through political efforts and her music. I can’t think of a better role model for our generation. (‘Cause I’m bluffin’ with my muffin)
2.) She writes her own music.
Too often do we find ourselves idolizing celebrities that are not much more than a pretty face and a nice voice. Gaga plays a key role in writing her own music. Although she hasn’t written everything she’s sung, few artists have done nearly as much songwriting as her. No lip-syncing either! Not only that– she’s written songs for Britney Spears, TLC & Cher.
3.) She loves her fans.
Lady Gaga has been known to invite fans to party at her apartment, how cool is that? When I went to her concert, she read letters thrown on stage from her fans; many of them she was already personally acquainted with. Some celebs feel burdened by their fans (which is absurd) babes like TSwift and Gaga embrace their fans, and have been known to hire them as well.
4.) She has a rocking body
Hollywood emphasizes the attractiveness of a stick-thin body, Gaga has one of the tightest bods in the industry. Hot like Mexico, rejoice.
5.) She is out to change the world.
Remember her infamous VMA outfit, the one where the was covered in meat? While many of us were left with jaws dropped in horror, there was actually a serious message behind the dress. She was protesting the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, and referred to equality as the “prime rib” of the United States. Don’t ask, don’t tell policies are only beneficial to homophobic soldiers.
6.) Because you were born this way.
In 2012 Gaga started the Born This Way Foundation, focusing on youth empowerment and self confidence. She donated over a million dollars to kickstart the foundation. BTWF also fights bullying + suicide. Is Gaga a saint, or?
7.) She’s fucking fearless.
Imagine arriving in Russia to perform a concert. First of all, Russia’s politics are a tad bit intimidating(/scary) and very very anti-gay. Gaga didn’t give a shit, she told fans that they can be gay in her house, despite the fact that it is essentially illegal to be gay in Russia. The government was obviously pretty pissed about this, but that hasn’t stopped Gaga from fighting for Russian LGBT rights.
8.) She is unbelievably talented.
This is what sold me on Gaga. Her voice is truly beautiful, she has rockin dance moves, and she’s a classically trained pianist. I suppose I respect that some people aren’t entirely sold on her look, but come ON– that TALENT!!!!
9.) She’s proof you can be your weirdo self and still have a hot s/o
Gaga recently got engaged to Taylor Kinney. He originally proposed with a ring pop. I teared up. If this moment means anything it’s that you can act like a total freak, scare the living shit out of the general public, and somebody will still love the shit out of your weirdo self. #boysboysboys
10.) She’s an positive influence.
Lady Gaga encourages art, being open-minded, and embracing your own. In addition to being a pop icon, she serves as a voice for the public. Join me, be weird, and be a little monster. #dontbeadragjustbeaqueen
“ITS NOT THAT I DON’T LIKE YOU I’M JUST AT A PARTY”- Lady Gaga.
