Spring Transition Guide.

March 18, 2015

Although technically the first day of spring is March 20th this year, April 1st is the official first day of spring for many fashionistas. Living in Boston can be tough, because the while the calendar says March, the windchill says “January”– but we need to start prepping our wardrobes for the heat waves. Don’t be an April fool, and follow this transitional guide.

1.) PARKA Far Away

All I have to say is “BYE FELICIA”. I know it may still be a little chilly out, so use your best layering skills. Nobody said you couldn’t wear a scarf, but please kill the Canada Goose.

Instead, wear bomber jackets, over-sized jean jackets (perfect for layering), anorak or even your favorite fall leather jacket!

2.) Stop Hibernating in Fur Vests.

“Its not goodbye, its see you later” I’ll say to my 525 America rabbit fur baby. I know that you started wearing your precious fur back when it was far too hot for social acceptability, but mother nature won’t give us Spring unless we beg for it. If your fur is white, you may be able to keep it going for a few extra weeks. Try your best to coordinate pastels and light wash jeans.

Instead: try a tailored or fringe vest.

3.) See ya Later Wool Sweaters.

You think you’re ready to let go of winter until you see yourself packing away your favorite Free Peeps oversized sweater that got you through the good and the bad parts of this winter. I know its tough to put baby in the corner, but just remember that some things never go out of style (and they are usually black and oversized.)

Instead: turn to white, pastels, and fun graphics.

4.) Say bye to the tall boots

You can still wear your booties (have no fear), but snow boots and Uggs are not acceptable. Also– I know you’re #obsessed with your over-the-knee tall boots, but unless you’re a perfectionist at transitional weather attire, leave that to the  certified professionals.

If you absolutely have to wear them a few more times, think medium-washed jeans and a classic white t-shirt. Since they are technically out-of-season, leave this one to the experts.

Instead: try colorful *insert heart-eyed emoji*, open-toed, cutout booties, and maybe even cowboy boots.

5.) Flannels on Fleek

You don’t have to pack away all your flannels, just the ones that look like they belong to a Christmas pajama set. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to revisit them in the fall. Make sure the rest of your outfit is very very spring/summer as not to be confused with a hobo.

PS. DITCH THE TIGHTS.

I know your legs are probs whiter than the snow that just melted, but #treatyourself to a spray tan or at least some Jergens natural glow and take those tights off your body. I know its hard to give up the slimming black stockings– but as perviously stated, we need to force this spring thing along a little.

Instead: try light colored knee-high socks. Some of my favorites are from Free Peeps and LF.
