Susan and Hope Roussilhes of Max & Riley show that the mother-daughter bond is the glue that holds the Newbury Street boutique together. These friendly ladies know and love everything fashion, and have the experience to back it up. Susan worked in high-end retail in the early 80’s. Her daughter, Hope, was involved with Teen Vogue Fashion University and interned for Erika Bearman, better known as Oscar PR Girl, the SVP of Global Communications at Oscar de la Renta.
The mother-daughter team became NYFW regulars, knowing one day would one day open a store together. Max & Riley, as Susan and Hope described as a “labor of love”, has quickly become a go-to spot for special event clothing and accessories on Newbury street since it’s 2015 opening. The boutique carries popular contemporary brands such as Rachel Zoe, Zac Posen and SJP Collection to Current Elliot and Wildfox. The owners are fur-free animal lovers who even named their store after their family dogs. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the only store on Newbury that carries Chiara Ferragni’s phone case collection. Everything they carry is on-trend and relevant in fashion.
Above the register hangs a frame full of the mother-daughter duo with all of the designers, models and celebrities they’ve socialized with over the years. Photographed with everyone from Victoria Beckham to Stella McCartney and Rachel Zoe, it’s a great conversation starter while browsing the racks of on-trend clothing, and goes to show that these two are the real deal.

Susan and Hope have made 226 Newbury Street an equally inviting place to both shop and chat about one’s love for fashion, and is definitely worth the visit. Max & Riley is the Newbury Street boutique we never knew we needed, and we were so lucky to have the opportunity to collaborate with them for a photoshoot.
