When it comes to reading, i’m not typically one to speculate what is going to happen next. Unless it’s super obvious, I let the author take me there. That said, I would have been a little annoyed if I read a predictable book entitled “Surprise Me.” Fortunately, Sophie Kinsella did not disappoint. If romantic fluff isn’t your thing, then I can say with certainty this is your book. As for me, I love a feel good novel– sue me.
For those of you who love a pleasure read, this is the perfect book for you. The book is over 400 pages, which isn’t exactly “light”– but I easily finished it in 4 days (I read an hour per day.) It’s the kind of book where you need about 30 seconds to get through a page. Additionally, the characters are British + reading in a British accent is always soothing.
Anyways, the plot: Dan and Sylvie are in their early thirties and have been together for 10 years. On their anniversary of the day they met, they both decide to go to the doctor for their annual checkup. There they find out that they are set to live until they are in their hundreds, and panic sets in. Though they were a happy couple who often finished each other’s sentences– the idea of several decades of marriage felt daunting. So, they come up with the idea to surprise each other. The story line is not a series of expensive gifts and sexual favors, so don’t expect the obvious. I’m going to stop here, as to not give away the story, but you can purchase through the link below. After you finish reading, comment on this post and let me know what you think! 🙂
