I had an idea, and some free time. I wanted to offer personal styling advice, free of change, so long as people would be featured on the site. I asked these women to tell me about their lifestyle, budget, style influences and to describe their body type *in their words* (i.e nobody calls themselves an apple.)
I’m excited to say that I had enough submissions that this will be a multi-part series *heart eye emoji.* If you haven’t been featured yet, don’t worry, I’m doing this first-come-first serve. If you’d like personalized styling advice, email mackenzie@mackinstyle.com and I’ll send you a questionnaire.
Allison, 23, Allston, MA
Allison describes herself as taller-than-average. If she had to categorize herself into a magazine article description, she’d say athletic– but by no means thin or big. She eventually settled on “~average sized tall girl~. Weekends include beach days in Marshfield, lunch with friends and bars in Boston. She works in health administration and has a pretty relaxed dress-code, just no jeans or backless sandals. Her style icon is Whitney Port because of her boho yet classic style. Allison wants to start investing a little more into her wardrobe.

Samantha Mackowitz, 21, Higganum CT
Samantha is a UConn student on a budget. Her style, as I remember, is Rihanna meets the 90’s. She’s 5’6 and on the thinner side with a long torso, bigger in the hips. She’s looking for clothes to wear out at night while home from school, and to work during the day. Her style icon is Bella Hadid, and *moi* and she wants to learn how to rock a jumpsuit.
Black H&M jumpsuit – You’ll find yourself over-wearing this. Yes, you can wear this to weddings AND the straps are optional.
Choker Forever 21 Cropped Top – Wear with black high-rise jeans or a skater-style skirt.
High Rise H&M White Pants– You’ll wear these all summer.
Satin ASOS Cami – All you need(ish) are nipple covers. So cute with a blazer in the fall. Heres an H&M option
H&M Shirt-Dress – For the Kate-Spade lover in you.
New Look Mules – Sam looks best in 90’s inspired clothing. This girl will kill it in mules.
Lace Vanessa Mooney Choker- I know this will become your next “signature” necklace
Kendall and Kylie Flatform – Lookalike at Boohoo
taylor, 21, Boston
Taylor is very into fitness. While she is definitely proud to show off her body, she’s far from the Nasty Gal type. A USC senior sorority sista and an intern at a major hedge fund, Taylor likes to keep it classy, but can invest in summer clothes because she wears them year round.
Sam Edelman Ivy Heel – You can wear these all year when you go to school at University of South Carolina *eye roll emoji*
Pull some strings ruffle top Nasty Gal – I’m obsessed with how feminine and yet sexy this is.
Lucy Paris Bell Sleeve Top – A romantic top that goes from brunch to date night.
Marlo J-Crew Cross Body Bag – Too cute for words. And it’s on sale.
Silver Natalie B Statement Necklace- Your newest every-weekend staple. Invest, don’t let it rot like So Good.
Yellow Revolve “Glamorous” Dress- Literally the cutest dress I’ve ever seen in my life.
MINKPINK Galah Dress – I saw this and I saw Taylor at Tia’s in Boston.
Gold Ray-Bans – On sale, so you don’t have to feel too guilty about always losing them.
shannon, 23, BOSTON
I’ve known Shannon since 7th grade and this girl has an impossible time getting rid of clothing. So, when shopping for Shan, I know that I need to choose clothing that I expect her to be wearing until its full of holes and unwearable. Her work environment, at a school for blind students, is very relaxed, as is her weekend lifestyle. Shannon hates spending money on clothes and usually shops at TJ Maxx and Marshalls (don’t we all.)
J.Crew Factory Tissue Tunic – Another versatile piece. Perfect for trips to the cape (or Marshfield bars)
Contemporary F21 Striped Shirt – If you make this your “trendy” investment of the season, you won’t regret it.
Petite Halter Cami from LOFT – A day-to-night top that looks just as cute tucked into a skirt as it does with denim. Add a denim jacket for fall.
H&M Orange Crepe Dress – You could get the navy… or you could go for this cool orange. Casual wedding appropriate.
Nine West Narcissus Heels – 6pm is the go-to shopping destination for women who don’t have “average” sized feet.
Old Navy Mini Tassle Bag – So cute, so inexpensive, so worth it. Order this.
RSVP Espadrilles – In so so many cute colors!
Lily, 21, Manchester, ct
Lily is a UCONN Student (formerly Suffolk Her-Campus) home for the summer. Lily’s style is quirky in a preppy way, very on-trend for what I now refer to as the “urban prep” era. She loves Gap, J.Crew, and Kate Spade; but likes to look a little edgier than their average shopper. Her shopping goal is to rock denim culottes.
H&M Off-the-shoulder Dress – We could all use this dress this summer. Under $20. Go get it
J.Crew Factory Cami Top- Tuck into your cropped flare jeans with a cute belt and you are ready to do literally anything.
Rayner Jean Culottes via J.Crew – Wear with ankle booties in the fall with a cardigan, rock with flats or cute sandals for summer. Their jeans come in petite, and they offer in-house alterations. Worth the splurge.
Striped J.Crew Factory Linen shirt – Wear it open for pool/beach days with friends, or with white jeans (any style) to sushi.
Classic Striped Vans – I felt so strongly Lily needed these that I searched 3 websites to find them in her size. Preppy meets Rihanna.
Mini Rebecca Minkoff Perry Satchel – On sale, so adorable. Wear with all neutral tones to wear into October.
Steve Madden “Sweety” Sandals – Dress up or down, these are adorable. You could wear these to a wedding, or to brunch.
Cynthia Steefe Dress – Have an event this summer? Rent this Cynthia Steefe dress from RTR. Perfect for you.
Thank you for letting me style you! <3
