Not Your Basic Bachelorette

September 13, 2018

This weekend we celebrated my cousin & BFF Melissa‘s bachelorette party! She writes and models regular for Mack in Style, so even if you don’t know her personally, you’re probably familiar with her! To say that it was the most extra, Instagram worthy celebration would be the understatement of the century. In collaboration with Melissa, who wanted to participate in the planning of her bach, I organized a bachelorette weekend in the Southampton, New York. I’m not going to lie, I spent upwards of 100 hours of my summer planning this bash, and seeing it come together was *everything*. But what made it the most special was how happy it made Melissa, who is one of my favorite people on earth.

Why did I spend SO much time, effort and energy on this? Well friends, I promised Melissa it would be the best bachelorette party in the history of marriage. As many of you know, i’m EXTREMELY competitive, and couldn’t handle the idea that someone would plan a better party. I got issues, but at least they involve spoiling the people I love! The party was such a success that I have decided to start a party planning business called “Not Your Basic Bachelorette.” If you’re looking for someone to elevate your bachelorette party, you’ve found your girl. No, seriously, I made a website + you can now hire me.

So what are the key ingredients of a good party? Obviously the right food & booze. But in 2018 something else comes to mind– Instagram. Yes, I’m aware of how superficial and potentially lame that sounds. If you don’t care about that stuff, live your life! If you want nothing more than a picture perfect party to show off to all your followers, I’ve got you covered.

PRIVATE WORKOUT CLASS

Hands down the best thing I did for this bachelorette party was hire a dance instructor to come teach our group the choreography to “Buttons” by The Pussycat Dolls. It cost me $500, but considering there were 13 of us— that was a steal! I was looking into renting out a Soulcycle class for the group, they were going to charge $60 a person #nothanks. I would HIGHLY recommend doing this + if you email me (mackenzie@mackinstyle.com) I will give you the contact for my dance instructor. NY area (obvi.)

BALLOON ARCH

Balloon arches are instagramable AF, but that’s not all they are good for! While helium will last in your balloons 24 hours MAX, a balloon arch can last about ~3 days. You can purchase the arc itself from Party City + the balloons separately.

PERSONALIZED ERRYTHING

If you’re planning a bachelorette party, the first place you’ll want to check out is Etsy. The reason this place should be first is because Etsy is known to take a LONG time to send stuff. If you’re in a rush, make sure you’re only looking at vendors that come from within the USA. Nobody wants a boring “bride to be” banner when you can get one that is personalized. I got Melissa one that said “Future Mrs. Karger” + it was so cute! Etsy is also a great place to get personalized banners, hangover kits + custom champagne labels! Plus you’re supporting a small business, which is always chic!

MATCHING PAJAMAS

How many times are you going to wear a swimsuit that says “bride tribe” after a bachelorette party? Literally not once. How often will you wear a super chic cotton pajama set with nothing that says “squad” on it? Until there are holes in that shit!! Matching pajamas are the move. I can say with certainty there is nothing cuter in the world than waking up hungover with all your best friends in matching jams. I purchased our’s from Shein, which I know breaks my fast-fashion rule– but hey, I needed to buy 15 pairs of pajamas and I had a budget!

PENIS SHAPED THINGS

Look, it’s a bachelorette party. This is literally the only time it will ever be socially acceptable for you to drink out of straws that look like dicks. It’s definitely *obvious* that you should have inappropriate decor, but what you may not have thought about yet is that you need PENIS SHAPED PASTA! I bought these for a night where we did a home cooked Italian meal + it was a huge hit. This is a must.

Sound amazing, but you don’t have the time nor energy to do this sh*t?! You can hire me. I work remotely + can plan domestic or international bachelorette parties!
