It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a fashion-related post on here– and since we’re finally starting to get some warmer weather, it seems like the right time to do it.
What’s Hot?
Body diversity in advertising. Gone are the days that people expect to see sub-zero sized models in advertising. No, seriously, we’re over it. I’m not here for body shaming anyone, but now is the time to show a little cellulite in bikini shots, some uneven cleavage + perhaps *gasps* body hair.
Neons. Sorry I don’t make the rules. Perhaps you heard me incorrectly– I’m not calling for the revival of day glow or telling you to whip out your freshman year going-out lewk. But yeah, neons are back. I called this last year when Shea Marie launched SKIN by Same Swim; and now the masses are listening. This is great news for me, who looks like sh*t in pastels. Looks like my hot pink leather jacket is going to be making some appearances this spring!!
Reading actual books. The sale of physical books has been up every year since 2013! While book sales may never fully recover from the birth of the internet– people are reading now more than ever. It’s not that surprising; we live in constant fear of nuclear war, the impact of climate change, and the Trump administration. Of course people are finding solace in the pages of a novel. My favorite recently? Nightingale by Kristin Hannah– which might be the best book I have ever read. In my life. You can find my May book list HERE.
Summer Cheetah. Animal print has been hot for a minute now, or if you’re me– since the day you were born. In fact, most of what’s hot right now is 80’s inspired, so this should come as no surprise. Would you wear a leopard print bikini? Here are some options if you decide that’s your destiny.
Tie-dye is back. So if you’re looking for a chic summer activity, throw your friends a tie-dye party. I’d do this if I didn’t live in a 600 sq/ft apartment. Perhaps I’ll try doing it in the park? You could also just buy into the trend… I just wouldn’t recommend Something Navy’s line at Nordstrom. Despite the fact she basically re-started the trend– I’ve never purchased a lower-quality item at such a high(ish) price-point. I recommend something muted, like Taylor’s Swift’s new aesthetic!
Specifically Swim:
High-Leg Swim. While I’ve been known to rock a high-waisted bikini now and then, I’ve always been iffy about the trend. To be honest, it’s easy to blur the line between “diaper” and “vintage-inspired”– which is why i’m happy this style is moving towards the high-leg, which allows the lower-stomach coverage without looking like an overgrown baby.
Underboob. This trend is unexpected and i’m surprisingly here for. I first saw my friend Alexa rocking a Frankie’s Bikinis top at Coachella + instantly fell in love with the trend. Though I probably won’t adapt it myself, i’m 100% into it.
Scarf tops. When it comes to having big boobs, it’s about a 50/50 chance I can pull off a swim trend. I’m leaning towards no on this one for me, but I LOVE the bandanna top trend– which Solid + Striped is paving the way on. So unfortunately that’s all I have to offer right now, except for one Topshop contender
One Piece Cutouts. If you’re looking for something sexy without sacrificing coverage, I’m obsessed with this style. There are TONS of this style out right now, so it should be really easy to find a cute one. I’ve listed some below, obviously!
Maximalism continues to trump minimalism + personal style is more important than anything else. I’ll be rocking my favorite Cult Gaia purse from 2017 and my boyfriend jeans from last year. Do you boo!
Let’s shop together, shall we?
